Principal’s Corner

October 29, 2020

Dear  Students, Staff, Parents, and Community Partners:

It gives me great pleasure to have an opportunity to work with your community as the new Principal of Roy Herburger Elementary School. I am enthusiastically anticipating our time together. I have heard so many wonderful things about the Herburger community. I am particularly fond of how our Herburger family works together to achieve goals.

I am transitioning from Prairie Elementary School where I served as the Vice Principal for four years (2016-2020). Just before arriving to Prairie, I worked as the Vice Principal at Sunrise Elementary School for five years (2011-2016). Both experiences have taught me that a Principal leads from the heart, expects the best of everyone, and consistently uses their influence to propel others forward. I look forward to working with each of you to help you to realize your hopes, dreams, and goals.

To provide you with information on my background, I was born and raised in Oakland, California. I graduated from McClymonds High School. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from UCLA. I received my first Master of Arts degree in Radio and Television from San Francisco State. I attended Sacramento State University to receive an administrative credential, and I chose to push forward one more semester to earn my second Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership. Currently, I am enrolled in the Brandman University Doctoral Program to earn an Educational Doctorate in Organizational Leadership. As you may see, I am committed to life-long learning.

My family and friends assist me in living a balanced life. I have a 25 years old son who dwells in Los Angeles, California. He is a comedian who also works in education. I am a caregiver for my 93-year-old humorous and wise grandmother. She has inspired me all my life to be generous, helpful, and gracious to others.

I look forward to working with all of you to build your capacity to lead, “dream big”, and help others along the way to achieve their goals. I maintain an open-door policy, so feel free to reach out to me. It is my hope that together, we will endeavor to maintain a positive mindset as we explore many seasons together. I wish you much peace, and I will see you on Thursday, November 5, 2020 when I begin my first day at Roy Herburger Elementary School.

Yours truly,
Tamela L. Moore, Principal
Roy Herburger Elementary
